Dakota Foca is a New York based artist, skilled in the principles of drawing, painting and graphic design.
His love for the arts sparked as a child. Watching his mother Pamela, an accomplished artist and designer, create captivating illustrations and murals as well as life size set displays. She would encourage Dakota to use his creativity in all ways possible and gave him her full support. Dakota’s grandfather Santos, was another major influence in cultivating his interest in the arts. Dakota and his grandfather would take many trips together to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, surrounding themselves by works of the great masters and enjoying the history behind them.
Dakota continued his creative journey obtaining an Illustration degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. He is thankful for professors Salvatore Catalano and the late Donald Sipley for stressing the importance of drawing and painting from life. This key practice of working from life would greatly benefit Dakota’s works, especially when live painting at wedding events.
His skills as a draftsman are precise. Use of light and dark tonal values shape the subject. Painting allows Dakota to build the forms he sees with vivid colors capturing a likeness. The landscapes he creates provide an atmosphere reserved to us for an eternity.
In his graphic design works he brings timeless yet bold aesthetics. Balance, color harmony, and space are what he believes make a design appeal to the eye.
Dakota has been grateful to find success using a variety of applications. Whether on canvas in the midst of a crowded wedding ballroom, or in comfort of the studio, his works are diligently crafted aspiring for greatness in each piece.
